These are natural ways to treat sunburn

Hello!

The past couple of weeks have been gorgeous sunshine. ☀️

And with the added bonus of being able to see friends and family again, it’s easy to get caught out!

Maybe you didn’t realise you missed a spot, or you forgot to reapply (guilty) and despite your best efforts you’re feeling a bit pink.

Here are seven natural remedies to soothe sore skin, fast.

After-sun care is all about adding moisture back into the skin’s barrier…

☀️ Sunburn draws fluid to the skin surface and away from the rest of the body so drinking extra prevents dehydration. Make best friends with drinking water for a few days to help counteract the drying effects of a sunburn.

☀️ Lay off using too much skincare, especially ‘active’ skincare (acids, retinol etc.) Our skin needs a chance to calm down, and using too much stuff can be counterproductive. What you do use should be ultra-calming, natural and gentle.

☀️ Suds, foam, soap… whatever your poison step away from the sulphates when sunburnt. These nasty chemicals dry skin out and will only (painfully) amplify the damaging effect of sunburnt.

☀️ Oats are a dream for soothing irritated skin. Use natural oat-based cleanser on the face for calm skin, and create a DIY oatmeal bath using a tied-off cheesecloth and let it steep in a tepid bath.

☀️ Once out of the bath or shower, gently pat dry, leaving a little water on your skin. Then apply a naturally rich moisturising bar to trap the hydration on the skin.

☀️ Really feeling it? Tea contains tannins a lovely natural remedy to reduce inflammation. Pour cooled green tea onto a clean cloth and then apply it to the sunburned area. For an extra cooling effect, add mint leaves when you brew.
